Last but not least with Singha Light Live Series Vol. 004 with Yo La Tengo + Moderndog. They are known to be one of the most restless and most consistently good bands of the past 30 years -- with as many as 14 studio albums. Always been a critics' band but their warm, open-armed sound has helped them develop one of the biggest followings in indie rock. Incorporating everything from folk, garage, noise rock, shoegaze, indie rock and dream pop into their tunes, they never fail to impress their fans. Over more than two decades, the band has continually explored new musical territory, more interested in innovation than mainstream success.
Yo La Tengo is also known to be one of the world's best cover bands. Who else has the chops to cover bands like The Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground, The Cure, The Stooges, The Who, and many more? It helps that the trio’s fluency in their own expansive musical tastes makes their covers as good as the originals if not more. They are the one band who doesn't flip off their history but willing to reinvent their own songs without making a big deal of it so it's not much of a surprise when they dropped a covers album, Stuff Like That There, as their latest album last year. The record stands as a loving portrait of Yo La Tengo’s vast musical and social universe condensed into a small wooden frame. Also, not to be missed is their alter-ego project called Condo Fucks -- Yo La Tengo’s temporary reinvention as a bunch of garage rockers from New London, Connecticut.
Their list of collaborations with other artists is nothing short of fascinating. Yo La Tengo has teamed up with many influential artists such as Yoko Ono for a charity project as well as with Daniel Johnson on a cover of Speeding Motorcycle. Together, they did a film score for The Sounds of the Sounds of Science and Adventureland. Often get compared to the Velvet Underground, they were chosen to play them in the movie, I Shot Andy Warhol.
Don't miss the chance to be intrigued by Yo La Tengo on Sunday, December 4th at Voice Space.
