The Butcher&rsquo;s Shop is a mid-length documentary exposing the hidden realities of life inside the ever-multiplying &lsquo;Pig Butchering Scam&rsquo; compounds in Myanmar&rsquo;s borderlands.With the offer of well-paid jobs, thousands of highly intelligent workers are being tricked into entering compounds and scamming victims online, under the threat of torture, organ harvesting, and death.&nbsp;The film follows the stories of Dembe and Zehra, two individuals who came to Southeast Asia on the premise of well-paid careers but instead ended up being trafficked into two separate prison-like facilities along the border of Myanmar&rsquo;s Shan State.&nbsp;*Warning: the film contains distressing content.After the film, Jason Tower, the United States Institute of Peace Burma country director, will discuss how Myanmar became the ground zero of pig-butchering and how criminal activity has expanded across the country over the past two-plus years since the military coup.
