Gather around our table as your Pakistani refugee host family serves a three-course dinner featuring homemade recipes from Pakistan. theCOMMONS has partnered with Na Projects Group to raise awareness for the global refugee crisis. This monthly dinner is a chance to learn about different cultures while dining to make a difference for your refugee hosts. After costs, your donations enable them to afford housing, food, and necessities. Join us for a taste of Pakistan!

About Pakistani Food:

Pakistan’s food has affinities to Indian cuisine, but its unique taste comes from Arabic and Mughal influences.  It’s a melting pot of cultures and spices! You can expect layered flavors that connect you to Pakistan's heritage. In comparison to India, Pakistani food features a heavier use of meat, particularly beef. Your hosts look forward to sharing a homemade Pakistani meal with you. Enjoy!

About Your Host:

Your host was part of the persecuted Ahmadiyya community in Gujranwala, Pakistan. The hostile environment escalated when her neighborhood was attacked by a violent mob and their home was destroyed. Due to safety concerns for her family, she fled to Thailand for a peaceful life, bright future, and hope to earn a living through culinary skills.

Paya Soup: The night begins with a rich mutton stew spiced with garlic, ginger, and turmeric.
Sour Veggie Soup (Vegetarian): This tangy, nourishing soup bursts with bright flavors.
Dahi Badly (Vegetarian): Refresh yourself with an herby mix of daal, greens, and mint.
Chana Chat (Vegetarian): This tasty street snack has punchy bursts of spice and texture.

Mains:

Kadhi Pakora: Enjoy a popular Punjabi dish of dumplings and yogurt sauce.
Saag Maki Roti: An earthy mix of greens & golden roti makes this winter favorite.
Nihari: Save room for tender, slow-cooked beef nestled in a thick gravy.
Palak Gusht: Tuck into a soul-warming spinach and meat curry layered with flavors.

Dessert:

Firni: Your final treat is a sweet pudding infused with cardamom and nuts. Enjoy!
